Overview

Dear Friends,

Alaska, the Last Frontier. EVERYONE wants to go to Alaska. It never disappoints. It never gets old. There is always a wonder and mystery of the beautiful landscape, the surprise of the wildlife, and the intrigue of the history of Alaska. Viewed by most since the 19th century, over a hundred years later little has changed and it remains just as mysterious and inviting as ever.  Alaska is larger than Texas, California, and Montana combined so what we see on our cruise is just a tiny part of this magic kingdom. But what we will see will certainly be worth it as it is ever changing and always satisfying. Join us on this amazing cruise.

An avid quilter for over 20 years, Marilyn started her pattern company, Quilt Moments, in 2006, and lives in a suburb of St. Paul, Minnesota with her husband and three kids.

Marilyn has published over 50 patterns and a book titled “Kaleidoscope Symphony”.  She also has a Craftsy online class, “Quilted Kaleidoscopes”, and has been published in several magazines.  She enjoys teaching and sharing her love for designing quilts that look complicated yet include basic piecing techniques.  With a background in analysis, she loves the challenge of making her pieced patterns as versatile as possible so her patterns always include a variety of sizes and fabric options.  She uses lots of fabrics in her quilts and lets the fabric elements do the work to create stunning results.  Whether it’s rotating simply block units made with batiks, including easy four-patch kaleidoscopes made from a large print in the block centers, creating unique ways to show off panels, or using the popular Twister tools (she’s co-owner at TwisterSistersDesigns.com, the new home of the Twister tools), all her techniques are addictive and fun!  Learn more about Marilyn by visiting her websites and blog.

Itinerary

Day 1

Seattle, Washington

We begin our seven-night Alaskan Cruise out of Seattle, Washington. Seattle is often characterized by its laid-back attitude and rainy climate, but this thriving metropolis also offers one-of-a-kind architecture, the Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges, and a unique urban sophistication. A trip to Seattle isn't complete without visiting Pike Place Market. Here, you can browse the stalls of local merchants and artists, take in a street performance, or watch fishmongers play catch with the catch of the day.

Quilting Classes in the Conference Center!

Day 3

Juneau, Alaska

We will make our first stop in Juneau, Alaska. Juneau, the capital of Alaska, was founded during a gold rush in 1880. Today, the former gold-mining town counts among its riches some of Alaska's most spectacular scenery. Nestled at the foot of Mt. Juneau in the Alaska Panhandle, it faces the water from the mainland side of Gastineau Channel. Several magnificent fjords are located along the channel coast, and the majestic Mendenhall Glacier, a favorite of visitors, is nearby.

Day 3 Image

Day 5

Sitka, Alaska

Sitka truly offers the best of Alaska. Its small-town appeal stems from a unique blend of Russian, Tlingit and American history. Its snow-capped peaks and volcanic Mount Edgecumbe pose among the state’s most postcard-worthy scenes. And its rare wildlife astounds, from Saint Lazaria Island’s orange-beaked puffins to Alaska Maritime Refuge’s 40 million seabirds. This is off-the-path Alaska, where you can kayak Sitka Sound alongside swimming sea otters or fly-fish for the world’s biggest halibut. Whether it’s hiking Baranof Island trails or listening to tribal stories passed down for generations, in Sitka the midnight sun never sets on adventure.

Day 7

Victoria, British Columbia

Next up is Victoria, British Columbia. Located on the southern tip on the island of Vancouver in British Columbia, the city of Victoria is probably best known for its mild climate and active outdoor lifestyle. (In fact, the city has been named the "fittest city" in Canada more than once.) As the capital of British Columbia, the city is very tourist-friendly. Visit the world-famous Butchart Gardens or the lush and exotic Butterfly Gardens and see how Victoria earned the nickname "The City of Gardens." Among the many attractions are world-famous gardens, its 150 years of British history, gourmet dining and fantastic shopping.

The Ship

Quantum of the Seas

Set sail for the ultimate exotic adventure on one of the world’s most innovative ships— Quantum of the Seas®. It’s game changers, space age spaces, dining that defies the imagination and edge-of-your-seat entertainment onboard. Featuring the same groundbreaking venues as its sister ships, Ovation of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas, this ship is continuing to take cruisers to new heights. Quantum will offer guests a variety of activities, entertainment and dining options.

Quantum is a beautiful ship but the best part about it is the Conference Center located on Deck 13, back of the ship, with floor to ceiling windows! What a wonderful way to experience the beauty of the ocean while sewing on our projects.

Conference Room Setup:

On this ship we will be sewing four to a table with two side tables like the image below.
