    Barbara Dann

    Barbara Dann

    https://www.alleycatquiltworks.com/

Barbara began her quilting career as a longarm machine quilter on July 1, 2000.  For 10 years she quilted clients’ quilts and only made a few simple quilts for herself.  She started vending at most of the major quilt shows on the east coast and mid-west representing a fabric cutting system.  At one of those shows her booth was next to Jeff and Deb Tuckers’ (Studio 180 Design) and they became fast friends!  Deb and Jeff introduced Barbara to the two tools they were demonstrating – the Wing Clipper and the Hunter’s Star.  It wasn’t love at first sight.  You see, Barbara was (and still is) a very talented machine quilter but wasn’t much of a piecer – she mostly found it difficult and frustrating.

Having the right tools changed everything!  Barbara began making quilts she never thought possible – Hunter’s Stars, Flying Geese, Lemoyne Stars – and the list goes on and on.  She began working at the quilt shows as part of the Studio 180 Design team.  And what she enjoyed most was teaching quilters how to use the tools and share all the other quilting hints and tips she learned.

Barbara has been teaching at guilds, shops, retreats and quilt shows for the past 6 years.  Her teaching style is relaxed, informative and fun!  She enjoys teaching quilters of all skill levels and shares many tips and ideas that make piecing easier, faster and more accurate.

Barbara Dann: Diamonds In The Sky

Barbara Dann: Diamonds In The Sky

Diamonds in the Sky is a brilliant high contrast quilt. The Corner Beam blocks used throughout the design give you an alternating diamond illusion that simply radiates beauty. While we made our Diamonds in the Sky project with a medley of bright fat quarters for our stars, you could use 6” strips or scraps of bright fabric to make this a dynamite stash-buster project.

    Finished Size: 58” x 70”

NOTE: Fabrics in our Sail 'n Sew kits will be similar but not exactly as shown. Diamonds In The Sky uses these Studio 180 rulers and they are required for the class: Corner Beam. If you do not purchase the Sail N Sew you will need to purchase the pattern here: Diamonds In The Sky

    Majesty Lemoyne

    Majesty Lemoyne

Featuring Michelle’s newly created Majesty Lemoyne Star! Michelle alternated this fabulous Majesty Lemoyne with the first block she remembers her Grandmother teaching her to make, the Log Cabin Block. The combination radiates stateliness, especially with the Empire Border!

    Finished Size: 66" x 66"

NOTE: Fabrics in our Sail 'n Sew kits will be similar but not exactly as shown. Majesty Lemoyne uses these Studio 180 rulers and they are required for the class: Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star & Tucker Trimmer III. If you do not purchase the Sail N Sew you will need to purchase the pattern here: Majesty Lemoyne

    Itinerary

    Day 1

    Ft. Lauderdale, Florida

Fort Lauderdale lies along the Atlantic Ocean at the mouth of the New River, 25 miles north of Miami. Its warm tropical weather attracts many people throughout the year. For sun-worshippers, the city has six miles of beaches. There are also many recreational waterways with extensive boating facilities, access to every conceivable watersport, a variety of fascinating museums and trendy restaurants, and an array of entertainment venues.

People have been flocking to Fort Lauderdale's beaches for decades. And with good reason. Fort Lauderdale Beach is a two-mile strip of beautiful beach featuring the recently renovated Promenade, which offers all sorts of bars, restaurants and shops.

Quilting Classes in the Conference Center!

    Day 3

    Cozumel, Mexico

The Conquistadors first saw Mexico from the shores of Cozumel while searching for gold. Today, visitors to the island continue to seek out gold and silver jewelry in the shops of San Miguel while having a great time in its many local bars and restaurants. Plus, the waters around Cozumel's sheltered coral reefs make this one of the best snorkeling areas in the world. Don't miss the opportunity to explore the ruins of the ancient Mayan city of Tulúm, majestically perched above the turquoise Caribbean. The site was occupied as far back as 600 A.D. However, it was most densely populated around 1200 A.D. You will be struck by the pyramid-shaped El Castillo, which dominates the city from atop a forty-foot cliff. The nearby Temple of the Descending God provides equally excellent insight into the architecture of the Mayan people, who gained considerable achievements in the arts and sciences, only to decline and vanish for no apparent reason.

    Day 3 Image

    Day 4

    Roatan, Honduras (Class Day)

Roatán’s diverse blend of cultures and traditions is enough to charm anyone. But its mangrove forests, dense jungles, and swaths of white-sand beach will make you want to stay forever. Divers and snorkelers from all over the globe flock to the largest of Honduras’ Bay Islands every year see to the world’s second largest barrier reef firsthand. Roatán cruises provide access to laid-back beach towns and secluded shores. On the Big Island, you can mingle with monkeys and “Jesus” lizards, snorkel with stingrays, and zipline through rainforest canopies. If it’s culture you crave, the island’s unique and vibrant blend is more than satisfying— made up of ex-pat sun seekers, Hondurans from the mainland, descendants of European settlers, and Garífuna, whose Afro-Carib-Arawak heritage still flavors centuries-old communities like Punta Gorda.

Note: Due to only two cruising days on this itinerary, we will have class on this day. We want to be sure you get started on both projects early in the cruise and have a day of sewing when we cruise toward home the final day. We will dock at 8:00 AM  and we depart at 5:00 PM so there will be plenty of time for you to go ashore, walk around, see what is in port and still get the instruction on the project. We would encourage you to do this in the afternoon once the major part of the teaching is done.

    Day 4 Image

    Day 5

    Puerto Costa Maya, Mexico

Past meets present in Costa Maya. Cruise to Costa Maya and find ancient Maya ruins and mysterious jungles just begging to be explored, as well as private beach clubs and trendy restaurants— all in one place. It’s 250 square miles of paradise packed with entertainment and history, all just 30 miles south of Cancun. The Great Maya Reef just off the coast is the second largest in the world— it’s a must-snorkel spot. Or you can kick back at the port village of Mahahual with an ice-cold michelada— a spicy beer cocktail— in hand. For a culture fix, head to the Kohunlick ruins to see the famous Temple of the Masks.

    Cabins

With so much to do onboard, chances are really good that you will just use your cabin for changing and sleeping, but it's nice to know that if you want to spend more time there, you will indeed be comfortable. All standard staterooms are attractively decorated in soft tones with fine light woods and two pieces of artwork on the walls. Each stateroom has two beds that convert to queen-size, a private bath, phone, interactive flat-screen TV, mini-bar, hair dryers and air conditioning/heat controls. Bathrooms are on the small side, but functional, and showers have those wonderful, half-round sliding doors as opposed to clingy curtains. Soap and shampoo are also provided.

    Travel to and from Destination

You will be responsible for getting to and from the ship in Miami, FL.

    Dress

    • Casual: You’re on vacation – relax! Jeans, polos, sundresses and blouses are all the right amount of laid back. Please keep swimwear to the Pool Deck. Shorts are welcomed for breakfast and lunch.
    • Smart Casual: Think of this as a step up from your typical dinner wear. Dress to impress with collared shirts, dresses, skirts and blouses, or pantsuits. Jackets, sports coats and blazers are snazzy and welcomed.
    • Formal: There are those on a cruise ship that make it a night out in your best black-tie look – suits and ties, tuxedos, cocktail dresses or evening gowns. However, you can also take a more simple approach and just "dress nice" meaning generally what is referred to as church clothes. A simple pair of black pants with a nice blouse would suffice on these evenings. Men can bring a sports jacket or just a nice shirt is acceptable. There will be 2 formal nights on our cruise and the food is really nice on these dinners so you don't want to miss it!

NOTE:  There are times that the Conference Center can be chilly.  Be sure and bring a light sweater just in case you get cold.

    Gratuities

Gratuities are a part of your cruise expense and total $14.50 per day. This fee covers everyone who serves you while you are onboard including all onboard staff, dining staff, and your cabin steward.  Because of our group status, Stitchin' Heaven Travel pays these gratuities for our entire group prior to sailing.  Therefore, you will be charged for them at the time of final payment. A 18 percent gratuity is automatically added to bar tabs.

    Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is not included, but is available for your protection from Royal Caribbean in the form of their Travel Protection Program. It is $109 per person and both cabinmates must purchase it separately. In the event insurance is used please be aware that it covers the cost of the cruise only. Sewing package fees are not refunded.
