Overview

Dear Friends,

I do love to offer cruises themed to quilts made from batik fabric that are taught by teachers who are knowledgeable of quilting with batik fabrics. I am delighted to offer two incredible teachers for our 2022 Mexico Fiesta Quilting Cruise. Both teachers have traveled with us before so you may know them from our cruises or perhaps you know they from fabric they design or patterns and books they write. They are both amazing women, teachers, quilt designers, and friends.

During this trip not only will we get to know more about the techniques used in making and designing these projects, but we will also enjoy the excitement of Mexico. What a treat! We will be on the Navigator of the Seas with a conference center that has floor to ceiling windows! I sincerely hope you can join us on the educational and enjoyable cruise.

Jackie Kunkle

Jackie Kunkle

Jackie grew up in Northern New Jersey, and as a 6th grader, she learned to love sewing garments in Home Economics. She graduated college and moved to Connecticut, where she married her husband, Rod. She worked a "normal" job. In 1993, that changed. After finishing her Master's Degree, Jackie was working and pregnant with their first child. At that time, she decided to pick up a sewing machine and began to sew baby clothes for their new baby. At her husband's encouragement, Jackie took a quilting class. She took a second class, and Jackie was in love with quilting!

In 2000, she started a Long Arm Quilting business, Canton Village Quilt Works. In 2007, Jackie began a quilt blog. In her 9th year of business, she opened an online quilt shop. Shortly after that, designing quilts for magazines and fabric companies became a joy for her. Loving paper piecing, she became a Judy Niemeyer Certified Instructor and began to travel throughout the country teaching, lecturing, and showing quilts. Now she is also a Craftsy.com teacher. Jackie also released her book, Splash Of Color: A Rainbow of Brilliant Black & White Quilts. She also has her pattern line and, in fall 2016, she launched her fabric line and coordinating patterns with Island Batik. Getting to teach, design, and run her quilt shop is Jackie's passion. Visit her website to see what she is up to in the quilting world.

She teaches throughout the United States at National Quilt Shows and Retreats and is knows for her humor, enthusiasm and encouragement!

Michelle is the designer for her own pattern line Sew On The Go and her designs have appeared in several international Quilting Magazines. Additionally, she is a Certified Instructor for Studio 180 Design and many of her patterns have been published in their Modern 180 pattern line.

Remember Michelle’s philosophy; the more fabrics in the quilt the better! This quilt is extremely versatile, since the entire quilt is made with strips and is strip pieced! No Y Seams! It will come together easily with Studio 180 Design’s Rapid-Fire Lemoyne Star™ and Tucker Trimmer III™ Tools.

Day 1

Los Angeles, California

Known as the City of Angels, Los Angeles could more accurately be dubbed the City of Endless Adventures. This West Coast capital has something for every kind of traveler — interesting history, a mind-blowing food scene, beautiful landscapes, and a unique mix of glitz, glamour and metropolitan grit. You’ll find it all here — sprawling mansions in star-studded neighborhoods like Beverly Hills, Bel-Air and Calabasas, hanging red lanterns and sculpted dragons in Chinatown, traditional Mexican shopping stalls selling handmade crafts along Olvera Street — the list goes on and on. If you’re a film buff, wander down Sunset Boulevard and keep your eyes on the ground — the sidewalk is covered in stars dedicated to famous actors, actresses and celebrities. Head to the Santa Monica Pier for a sun-soaked beach day and a ride on the world’s only solar-powered Ferris wheel. Even if you only have a single day to spare ahead of your cruise from Los Angeles, it’s worth setting aside some time to get to know the best of LA.

Day 3

Cabo San Lucus, Mexico

As Baja California's most electrifying destination and a playground for the rich and famous, Cabo San Lucas delivers a dreamy set of tropical wonders. Unspoiled shores like Lover's Beach paint the town in brushes of turquoise and white. Fertile ocean waters supply the seafood for fish tacos with adobo sauce. Cruise to Cabo San Lucas and head to Desert Park Natural Reserve to behold expansive cream-colored desert scenery. See soaring natural rock formations plunge into the Sea of Cortez at Land's End, only reachable by boat — the spot is also known for throwing the best beachside parties. Stride along a happy crowd while sipping on a margarita, taking in the impressive views and doing a little dancing while you're at it.

Day 3 Image

Day 4

Mazatlan, Mexico

Cradled by mountains and lapped by the cerulean waters of the Pacific, Mazatlán is one of the most interesting resort towns on Mexico’s wild western coast. If you’re planning a cruise to Mazatlán, you’re in for a real treat. You’ll find it all here — stately plazas and shaded streets lined with restored landmarks in the city’s Centro Historico. Beautiful white-sand beaches dotted with lively cafes, bars and plenty of space to sunbathe. And endless ways to dive into the region’s unique history, which is filled with Spanish conquistadors, buccaneer battles, and Gold Rush-era prospectors.

Day 4 Image

Day 5

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Puerto Vallarta — or simply Vallarta, as the locals call it — is a romantic's dream, with its cobblestone lanes, beachfront eateries and an old city center filled to the brim with charming boutiques. Jump onboard a Puerto Vallarta cruise and head to the shimmering waters of Yelapa beach for a dream-like escapade, or pop into Cafe des Artistes for a romantic meal in a candlelit garden. Then check out the landmark Los Arcos, a set of Roman-style arches by the waterfront, for a perfect photo of Vallarta's official symbol. For a break from the city life, head to Jardin Botanico Vallarta and enjoy the delightful scents of orchids and bromeliads and the refreshing waters of a boulder-filled river.

COVID-19 Vaccination Required

Unfortunately, our world and our cruise travel have certainly changed with COVID-19. The cruise ship companies have worked diligently with the CDC and government officials in order to continue cruising from the US.  Our commitment is to provide an enjoyable event with the utmost safety to our guests. Because of this, all guests registered with Stitchin’ Heaven are required to provide proof of vaccination.  By following this protocol, we will not be required to have our guests wear masks while in the Conference Center. However, ship protocols will need to be observed while onboard and when you are not in the conference room. Protocols are changing daily while navigating through these uncertain waters.
