Overview

Dear Quilting Mates,

Sail on Royal Caribbean’s revitalized Harmony of the Seas for seven nights of sun, fun and sewing! This is the most amazing Royal Caribbean ship yet. Enroll in quilting classes to improve your skills from two of our most popular teachers, Barbara Black and April Jaehn. You’ll have time to quilt with fellow classmates while enjoying the view from your cabin balcony. Then enjoy plenty of free time to discover the multitude of activities this incredible cruise ship has to offer.

Harmony of the Seas is an all-time favorite ship to Stitchin’ Heaven because it is like a beautiful city on the water. After all, the capacity is about 5500 guests with 2300 crew which is more than the population of Quitman and Mineola, TX combined!  We have a beautiful conference center on the 3rd floor with over 4000 square feet so that we can spread out and have plenty of space. New for 2023, we are introducing our Fun Times Day at Sea where you will have the opportunity to make one of our exclusive Grab ‘n Go projects.

During this trip you will we will also enjoy the beauty of the Caribbean. Our ports will include St. Maarten, St. Thomas, and the amazing private island CocoCay. I sincerely hope you can join us on the educational and enjoyable cruise.

April Jaehn

April Jaehn

April began quilting while living in Hungary.  Since she spoke very little Hungarian, she began learning to patchwork from YouTube.  Upon retirement April took a year off to decompress and figure out what she wanted to be when she grew up.  She found herself at the local quilt store most days--here is where she found her home.  She began working at Stitcher’s Quest in Fort Walton Beach Florida in 2017 and hasn’t had a day since without learning, laughing, and building lasting friendships.

April is drawn to rich saturated colors and bold designs.  When she’s not in front of a machine, she’s either thinking, dreaming, or talking about quilting!   So this opportunity to teach on a cruise is a dream come true.

Barbara Black

Barbara Black

Barbara has been sewing since she was a young girl and has been making quilts for more than 35 years.  Her interest, skills and love for quiltmaking make her a dedicated quilt teacher. She has taught quilting since 1989 at local quilt shops as well as guilds and quilt shows throughout the US. She is a featured guest artist on The Quilt Show, with Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims.

Barbara’s quilting accomplishments are extensive. Over the years, she has won many ribbons at quilt shows, including Best of Show in four separate shows, most recently in 2019. She has had five quilts accepted in AQS  shows.   She is also known for her complex feathered star medallion quilts.

In 2014 Barbara was honored to have her quilt Red and White—By the Numbers, selected as the Commemorative Quilt for the 40th anniversary of International Quilt Festival Houston.  It appeared in international advertising, throughout the city of Houston during the 2014 Market and Festival shows, and was featured on the beautiful tote bags and show pins.  The quilt was purchased as part of the Quilts Incorporated Corporate Collection.

Barbara has also worked for more than 20 years as an Education Team member with Quilts Inc., which hosts international trade shows and Festivals throughout the year. She has had many quilts published by McCall's Publishing and Christmas Year-Round, among other publications.  In 2014 three of her quilts were included in the publication 500 Traditional Quilts, which featured the best traditional quilts of the 21st century so far.  You can read about her quilting adventures at her blog:  My Joyful Journey.   https://bbquiltmaker.blogspot.com

Beyond her quilting life, Barbara enjoys spending time with her husband and two grown sons and her grandchildren, Stella and Sam, gardening, reading and traveling.

That Yoda Guy

That Yoda Guy

"Your path you must decide." Designed by Deb Luttrell as part of Stitchin' Heaven's Patchwork Pirates program, this quilt will have you on the right path. Deb was inspired to design this quilt just after she met the man who created Yoda in the iconic Star Wars movies. He is know as "That Yoda Guy" and lives in Philipsburg, St. Maarten. Once you have completed all of your blocks you will choose from several different layouts to complete your quilt.

Finished Size: 72” x 72”

4 yards of coordinated backing fabric will be needed (pieced horizontally). Please order when you order the Sail ‘n Sew kit on the registration form.

NOTE: If you choose to provide your own fabric you will need the That Yoda Guy pattern.

Scrappy Plus

Scrappy Plus

Carefully placed colors make the “Plus” blocks pop on this charming scrappy quilt. By using a variety of low-volume gray prints, the background becomes a diagonal plaid. Plaids and plusses? Ingenious!

Finished size: 60" x 75"

4 yards of coordinated backing fabric will be needed (pieced horizontally). Please order when you order the Sail ‘n Sew kit on the registration form

NOTE: If you choose to provide your own fabric you will need the Scrappy Plus pattern.

Optional Sail 'n Sew Fabric Pack

Our incredible Sail 'n Sew fabric pack includes all of the fabrics and patterns for your projects and they are pre-cut so all you need to do is sit down and sew! The price of the Sail ‘n Sew fabric pack is $295.00 and it includes precut fabric for the quilt top for both projects including the borders, binding and pattern.

If you are interested in only one of the kits, you can specify which one on the registration form when you sign up for the cruise. If you would like a Sail ‘n Sew pack, simply select both kits when you fill out the registration form and we'll have it waiting for you on the ship.

If you do not wish to purchase a Sail 'n Sew Fabric Pack, remember to pack your own fabrics. Day 1

Miami, FL

As far as vacation destinations go, Miami tops most sun-seekers’ lists. With its gorgeous beaches, vibrant neighborhoods and melting pot of cultures, the Magic City is the perfect place to spend a few days before your Caribbean island hop. Ahead of your cruise from Miami, jump-start your morning in true Miami style with a Cuban cafecito from a ventanita — a streetside shop window. Then climb the historic lighthouse at Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park on quiet Key Biscayne before lounging on the island’s secluded sandy shores. If you’re looking for a bit more action, head to South Beach — home to world-class restaurants, nightlife, shopping and lively beaches, all set against snap-worthy Art Deco buildings. Art lovers who visit Miami can head to Wynwood and explore the neighborhood’s colorful street murals and local galleries. Or take a trip back in time at the Renaissance-style Vizcaya estate, which offers a glimpse into Miami’s dazzling past.

Day 4

Phillipsburg, St. Maarten

What makes St. Maarten so unique is its blend of cultures. The island is home to 120 different nationalities speaking over 80 languages, and is governed by two countries: the Netherlands and France. In fact, it’s the smallest land mass in the world to be shared by two different nations. While it may be less than 40 square miles, there’s plenty to do on this little island: you can travel back in time while exploring centuries-old ruins and get your adrenaline fix ziplining through lush tropical forests. If you’re after a little rest and relaxation during your cruise to St. Maarten, you’ll find plenty of secluded beaches where you can work on your suntan before treating your taste buds to some of the best cuisine in the Caribbean.

Speaking of "That Yoda Guy", visit the That Yoda Guy Museum in St. Maarten. It is truly a must see for any visitor to the island.

Day 4 Image

Day 5

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

Charlotte Amalie is one of the world’s most beautiful harbors; blue waters peppered with sailboats and green hills dotted with quaint little cottages make for post-card perfect brags. Just outside the lively port town, you’ll find ribbons of powdery sand beaches dotted with hammocks. Cruise to St. Thomas and explore colonial landmarks like Blackbeard’s Castle or raise a pint of the local lager at quaint microbreweries. And when it’s time to fuel up, you’ll find plenty of beachside bars serving conch fritters, johnnycakes, and coconut patties. St. Thomas may technically be part of the U.S., but with its colorful markets, unspoiled beaches, and the ever-present sound of steel drums, you’ll feel a world away.

Day 6

Cruising

Fun Times Day at Sea - a day of free time sewing where you can make your complimentary Grab 'n Go sewing project and finish up the projects for the week.

Day 7

Perfect Day CocoCay, Bahamas

This isn’t vacation days spent. This is bragging rights earned. Cruise to CocoCay to conquer the tallest waterslide in North America and snap a shot from up to 450 feet up in a helium balloon. Grab a drink at the swim-up bar and soak up the scene in the largest freshwater pool in the Bahamas. Or get a taste of Bora Bora with your own Floating Cabana. Discover the magic of Perfect Day at CocoCay — only onboard Royal Caribbean® Cruises.

Because of this, all guests registered with Stitchin’ Heaven are required to provide proof of vaccination. By following this protocol, we will not be required to have our guests wear masks while in the Conference Center. However, ship protocols will need to be observed at all times and are subject to change at Royal Caribbean’s discretion.
