Overview

Dear Friends,

Ahoy Me Hearties! All hand hoy and avast ye! (Everyone get on deck and pay attention!) On this voyage into the Caribbean we plan to batten down the hatches and set sail for a week of pillage, piracy, and plunder.  We for sure won’t be marooned and no one is planning any mutiny or we will have to walk the plank and become shark bait! Our Privateer, Buccaneer, and Bucko will teach us our lessons and sometimes run a rig (play a joke or trick on someone) so plan to be entertained and we will all say “Shiver Me Timbers” each time we finish a project. So gather yer doubloons and come aboard! Aarrrrgggh!

Y’all this is going to be a really FUN cruise! We are featuring three original designs by moi that we use in our Patchwork Pirates Quilt-of-the-Month programs. I chose the three that I love the most and I believe you will not only enjoy making but also maybe will finish. Yoo-hoo! So put on Jack Sparrow, let’s go looking for Sunken Treasure, and find our Black Pearl!

Kari Nichols is manager of Holly’s Quilt Cabin, a large quilting store in the Denver Metro area. Being a native Coloradoan, and from a family of seamstresses, Kari grew up enjoying many quilts. The love of color and design was first shown in stained glass. Her stained glass pieces received awards and can be found in many homes. When a favorite piece was broken, re-creating it in fabric was the logical choice. This choice led to a career change and joining the Quilt Cabin family. Mountainpeek Creations, the quilt pattern design company, was born in 2001. Mountainpeek patterns are sold internationally and give quilters unique and contemporary designs for any skill level. Kari’s patterns have been featured in multiple publications and are available on the Mountainpeek Creations website along with her 2 books.

When Kari is not quilting, you will find her enjoying her Grandchildren and traveling!

Heidi Pridemore - The Flying Nun

Moondance is a Deb Luttrell original pattern that uses a nice blend of fabrics from light to dark with a focus contrast color. In this project you will learn just how wonderful the Log Cabin Trim Tool by Creative Grids Rulers is for making the blocks. Once the blocks are made they are set on-point. No seam matching is required until the blocks are set together. The ruler is optional but recommended for the project.

    Finished size: 72 1/2" x 83 1/2"

NOTE: Fabrics in our Sail 'n Sew kits will be similar but not exactly as shown. Moondance uses the Log Cabin Trim Tool and it is recommended for class. You can purchase it here: Log Cabin Trim Tool. If you do not purchase the Sail 'n Sew you will need to purchase the pattern here: Moondance

    Kari Nichols - Perfect Day

    Kari Nichols - Perfect Day

Designed by Deb Luttrell as part of Stitchin' Heaven's Patchwork Pirates program, this bright, tropical design was inspired by a Perfect Day at CocoCay, Bahamas. There is no better place to snorkel and see all the beautiful caribbean fish in the ocean.

When the Spanish closed their colonial fort on St. Maarten in 1648, a few Dutch and French soldiers hid on the island and decided to share it. Soon after, the Netherlands and France signed a formal agreement to split St. Maarten in half, as it is today. Philipsburg displays its Dutch heritage in its architecture and landscaping. The island offers endless stretches of beach, beautiful landscapes and great shopping. Compete in an actual race on an America's Cup shortened course. Grind a winch, trim a sail or just sit back and enjoy. Professional sailors will give you a quick lesson, then you're off to compete on Stars and Stripes, one of the most famous sailboats in the world. When shopping on Front Street, it's fun to stop in and see Nick Maley, the Yoda Guy.

When you're in San Juan, don't miss the opportunity to witness the pinnacle of natural beauty by exploring Puerto Rico's El Yunque Rain Forest. Cabins

With so much to do onboard, chances are really good that you will just use your cabin for changing and sleeping, but it's nice to know that if you want to spend more time there, you will indeed be comfortable. All standard staterooms are attractively decorated in soft tones with fine light woods and two pieces of artwork on the walls. Each stateroom has two beds that convert to queen-size, a private bath, phone, interactive flat-screen TV, mini-bar, hair dryers and air conditioning/heat controls. Bathrooms are on the small side, but functional, and showers have those wonderful, half-round sliding doors as opposed to clingy curtains. Soap and shampoo are also provided.

    Travel to and from Destination

You will be responsible for getting to and from the ship in Miami, Florida.

    Dress

    • Casual: You’re on vacation – relax! Jeans, polos, sundresses and blouses are all the right amount of laid back. Please keep swimwear to the Pool Deck. Shorts are welcomed for breakfast and lunch.
    • Smart Casual: Think of this as a step up from your typical dinner wear. Dress to impress with collared shirts, dresses, skirts and blouses, or pantsuits. Jackets, sports coats and blazers are snazzy and welcomed.
    • Formal: There are those on a cruise ship that make it a night out in your best black-tie look – suits and ties, tuxedos, cocktail dresses or evening gowns. However, you can also take a more simple approach and just "dress nice" meaning generally what is referred to as church clothes. A simple pair of black pants with a nice blouse would suffice on these evenings. Men can bring a sports jacket or just a nice shirt is acceptable. There will be 2 formal nights on our cruise and the food is really nice on these dinners so you don't want to miss it!

NOTE:  There are times that the Conference Center can be chilly.  Be sure and bring a light sweater just in case you get cold.

    Gratuities

Gratuities are a part of your cruise expense and total $14.50 per day. This fee covers everyone who serves you while you are onboard including all onboard staff, dining staff, and your cabin steward.  Because of our group status, Stitchin' Heaven Travel pays these gratuities for our entire group prior to sailing.  Therefore, you will be charged for them at the time of final payment. A 18 percent gratuity is automatically added to bar tabs.

    Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is not included, but is available for your protection from Royal Caribbean in the form of their Travel Protection Program. It is $109 per person and both cabinmates must purchase it separately. In the event insurance is used please be aware that it covers the cost of the cruise only. Sewing package fees are not refunded.
**Insurance fee will be added to your reservation total

**Residents of NY are not covered under this policy
