Meet The Instructor

Chris Hoover

Chris Hoover embarked on her quilting journey back in 1989, with the creation of her very first sampler quilt. What initially started as sewing a block a week soon evolved into a daily pursuit, fueling her unwavering passion for sampler and scrappy quilts. Chris has found solace in quilting throughout the years, often describing it as a source of comfort and sanity.

Her creative style draws inspiration from a wide array of sources, ranging from the interplay of colors and textures to the elegance of architecture and the beauty of nature. Since 1999, Chris has been dedicated to sharing her quilting expertise, both as a speaker and as a teacher, with quilt shops and guilds.

Chris's innovative designs have graced the pages of renowned publications such as Quiltmania, Best Fat Quarter Quilts, Best Weekend Quilts, and Quilts from Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks. While her designs may appear intricate at first glance, Chris has a talent for breaking them down into manageable elements, encouraging fellow quilters to envision the limitless possibilities of each design, making it uniquely their own.

Rulers & Templates

  • 12" Add-a-Quarter ruler

Basic Sewing Supplies

  • Small scissors or thread snips
  • Flat-headed flower pins

Optional (recommended)

  • Postcard
  • Stick on note pad (2" x 2")
  • Styrofoam Tray or paper plates to organize cut fabric
  • Small Craft Iron
  • Quart and Gallon size baggies
  • Task Light

Specific Tools:

  • 144 sheets of Foundation Paper
  • Add-A-Quarter Ruler 2 ½” x 12’ or 1 ½” x 12”

If you prefer to select your own fabrics, you will need to purchase the Crystal Palace Pattern.

A Few More Details:

  1. Please purchase the 60 Fabulous Paper-Pieced Stars Second Edition Book by Carol Doak and Foundation Paper prior to class.
  2. Select 5 or 6 different Stars from the book.
  3. Use the foundation paper to print the paper piecing templates for your selected Stars.
  4. Bring your templates, fat quarters, and 2.5" strips with you to class
