The Teachers

Instructor: Nancy Mahoney

Nancy Mahoney

Nancy has enjoyed making quilts for over 35 years, during which time an impressive range of her beautiful quilts have been featured in over 250 quilt magazines. She has also created over 100 quilt patterns for a variety of fabric manufacturers.

Nancy has authored 15 books since 2002; her most recent book is "A New Twist." Nancy has designed 15 fabric collections, including eight 30s reproduction collections.

When she's not designing and making quilts, Nancy enjoys traveling around the country, sharing her quilts, teaching her piecing and machine appliqué techniques, and visiting gardens.

Instructor: Sandra Coffey

Sandra Coffey

Sandra's passion is fiber art, especially quilting. She has been sewing since childhood and then made clothing for her entire family after she married. She learned the art of quilting soon after moving to Alaska. Sandra started quilting in 1976 and is always open to new techniques and patterns. She began teaching in 1995 and loves to share the skills needed to pass on this beautiful tradition. She is one of our most beloved local teachers and is Judy Niemeyer Certified!

Sandra joined our Stitchin' Heaven family in 2006 as the Block of the Month manager. She is also a long arm quilter. She does beautiful work quilting many of our shop models, several of which, have been featured in magazines.

Sapphire Song Quilt

Sapphire Song by Nancy Mahoney

Instructor: Nancy Mahoney

A scrappy assortment of fabrics in Sapphire Song, gussy up the humble Milkmaid's Star block. The blocks are easy to construct using foundation-paper piecing methods. The addition of a pieced border completes this stunning quilt.

Mysterious Courtyard by Quiltworx

Instructor: Sandra Coffey

Mysterious Courtyard pairs Judy Niemeyer foundation paper piecing with Tim Holtz designed fabric from the “Abandoned” and “Abandoned 2” collections from Free Spirit fabrics to create a beautiful statement. The fabric brings additional texture and interest to Neimeyer’s original design.

Blue Gate Garden Inn is a unique hotel located in northern Indiana. Just 10 minutes’ walk from the Shipshewana Auction & Flea Market, this hotel is perfectly located for your visit to Amish Country. This quilting retreat is a quilt-cruise-style event held at luxury hotels on land. You will spend an entire week at a luxurious hotel where you can sew on the BERNINA sewing machine that is yours to use for the whole trip. You will learn from two excellent instructors, and as always, we will provide Stitchin' Heaven support staff. As with the cruises, our two beautiful projects will have optional pre-cut kits available for purchase.
