Dear Friends,
I do love to offer cruises themed to quilts made from batik fabric that are taught by teachers who are knowledgeable of quilting with batik fabrics. I am delighted to offer two incredible teachers for our 2022 Batik Cruise to the Caribbean. Both teachers have traveled with us before so you may know them from our cruises or perhaps you know they from fabric they design or patterns and books they write. They are both amazing women, teachers, quilt designers, and friends.
During this trip not only will we get to know more about batik fabric and about the techniques used in making and designing these projects, but we will also enjoy the beauty of the Caribbean. What a treat! We will be on the new Anthem of the Seas with a conference center that has floor to ceiling windows! I sincerely hope you can join us on the educational and enjoyable cruise.
- Deb Luttrell, Owner - Stitchin' Heaven
If you have never been on a quilting cruise you have missed a real treat! Since 2010 Stitchin' Heaven Travel has offered quilt-related cruises and motor coach tours to literally hundreds of satisfied guests. See reviews from our happy travelers here.
How can all this get any better? Here's how!
Plus ... You'll be sewing on a Bernina Series sewing machine!
That's right! Each quilter will be provided a state-of-the-art BERNINA machine equipped with the extended table and a quarter inch foot. There's no need to bring your sewing machine all the way from home.
Consider bringing a friend, your spouse or your family – non-quilters are always welcome to join us and will have many activities to pursue while you are in class.
We look forward to our next adventure together with you!
Hi, I’m Isabel Prado or “Izzy” if you prefer. I’m a native California girl. I started quilting about 10 years ago. My closest quilt shop was a very sweet little shop called The Country Loft. They sold very traditional fabrics and so that’s what I sewed. I took a quilting class at our local adult school where I met lots of other sewers who also sewed with traditional fabrics. A few years in I discovered our local modern guild. My eyes opened so wide when my fellow guild members did their “show and tell”. I fell in love with bright, modern fabrics and have been using them ever since. I now teach the same class that I took at the adult school, but with a more modern aesthetic. I also teach at Cozy Creative Center where I work part-time.
Tiffany has been quilting and teaching for quite a long time, and she has a passion for it (designing, piecing, hand applique, and machine quilting). Her quilts have been featured by numerous publications, including Quilter’s World Magazine, Keepsake Quilting, and Connecting Threads. Tiffany loves teaching and she works with various fabric companies to create fabric collection-specific quilt patterns.
Tiffany has developed The Goddess Tool, The 60º Triangle Tool, The 90º Triangle Tool, and has a few more in the works. The Goddess Tool is commonly used in her Block of the Month patterns. Tiffany and Scott (her machine quilting husband) are proud owners of a Handi Quilter Long Arm. Tiffany designs and pieces while Scott works to create digitized machine quilting designs to match her original quilt patterns. Tiffany declares herself a Quilt Addict!
She designs and publishes under the name: Needle in a Hayes Stack.
Isn't this quilt just the best? This one is very simple but gives off an illusion of being difficult. Izzy will walk you through making this vivid Flint Chips quilt which features a bright rainbow of batik fabric. This beauty is sure to brighten any corner of your home. This quilt was designed as a companion pattern for the Bear Paw Production Half Rect Ruler. A paper template is printed in the pattern, but the ruler makes trimming so much easier.
Do you love to finish projects? Well it is a pretty sure thing that this is one project that you can take home finished and ready to go on to the quilter once you return home!

This Basket Weave quilt is a throwback to a traditional block. It just got a remake. Batiks make up not only the blue weave but the cream background as well. The blues are placed in a way that the shades flow from light at the top to dark at the bottom. The background is comprised of a mix of creams in a scattered arrangement. Each quilt will be just a bit unique because of the random placement of the cream background pieces. This is another easy one that can be finished while you are at sea. Get your long arm ready ladies and gentlemen!
One of the things you will learn about cruising with Stitchin' Heaven is that our cruises are designed for quilters by a quilter. We try to consider what to offer based on the quilter point of view. We love a good machine. We love a beautiful project. We love to finish our projects. All this you will find with Basket Weave.

San Juan, Puerto Rico
The vibrant capital of Puerto Rico, San Juan offers something for every traveler — world-famous beaches with crystal clear waters, incredible cuisine, rugged natural beauty and a rich history that goes back 500 years. With its ancient fortresses and colorful colonial-era buildings, San Juan makes it easy to feel as though you’ve slipped into the past. Life moves at a slower pace along the sunny cobblestone streets of Old San Juan, and salsa beats seem to waft perpetually from open windows. If you’re craving a hike, head to El Yunque National Forest. And if you’re more in the mood to unwind, set your sights on the beautiful shores of Isla Verde or El Condado.
Philipsburg, St. Maarten
What makes St. Maarten so unique is its blend of cultures. The island is home to 120 different nationalities speaking over 80 languages, and is governed by two countries: the Netherlands and France. In fact, it’s the smallest land mass in the world to be shared by two different nations. While it may be less than 40 square miles, there’s plenty to do on this little island: you can travel back in time while exploring centuries-old ruins and get your adrenaline fix ziplining through lush tropical forests. If you’re after a little rest and relaxation during your cruise to St. Maarten, you’ll find plenty of secluded beaches where you can work on your suntan before treating your taste buds to some of the best cuisine in the Caribbean.
St. Johns, Antigua
Antigua has a beach for every day of the year— literally. But the island experience goes beyond 365 distinct ribbons of white sand and clear waters. In the capital city of St. John's, you’ll discover charming candy-colored architecture, lively markets, and a beautiful baroque cathedral. And smiling locals greet you everywhere you go. On the southern coast, you can explore Nelson’s Dockyard, a centuries-old British naval base built by Admiral Horatio Nelson. Past Antigua’s yacht-studded coastline, you’ll find upscale boutiques, wild forest trails, hidden coves, and coral reefs bustling with tropical fish. But the best way to really see the island is from up above, so cruise to Antigua and hop into a helicopter for a panoramic look at lush jungles, golden beaches, and the nearby volcanic island, Montserrat.
Castries, St. Lucia
From dramatic landscapes molded by ancient volcanoes to sparkling palm-fringed beaches, St. Lucia is some amazing Caribbean eye candy. Luxury resorts nestle up to the natural beauty, giving this island just the right touch of exclusivity. Cruise to St. Lucia and explore the coast by catamaran. Hike to the peaks of the soaring twin Pitons. Tour rainforests and explore the fishing villages of Anse-La-Raye. In the capital of Castries, you’ll find touches of French and British heritage, from the architecture to the cuisine.
Basseterre, St. Kitts
Greens in every shade spring from the rolling hills of St. Kitts— an island ripe with eco-tourism adventures. In the port city of Basseterre, you’ll find centuries of history to explore in impressive estates and photo-worthy monuments like the Brimstone Hill Fortress, one of the best preserved military structures in the Americas. Cruise to St. Kitts & Nevis and venture beyond the port and gear up for a unique climb up the 3,792-foot Mount Liamuiga volcano for views well worth the hike. Or hop in a kayak to get up close with a rainbow of tropical reef fish. Looking for something a little more laidback? Escape to the tiny unhurried sister island, Nevis, for smooth golden beaches and clear-water snorkeling— it’s just a thirty minute ferry ride away.
Fingers Crossed - We are hoping to have an excursion to the batik factory if port restrictions are lifted. Once we know, we will notify you!
