Melissa Corry www.happyquiltingmelissa.com

Melissa was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. She moved to Cedar City, Utah for college and met the love of her life. They were married and started the crazy journey of Medical School. The next 10 years they moved several times. Before moving across the country that first time, Melissa asked her mother to teach her to quilt. She figured she was about to have some lonely evenings on her hands and needed some hobbies. She began slowly and enjoyed being able to create adorable baby blankets for friends. Melissa created Happy Quilting in July of 2010 after her husband got on her case for hijacking their family blog.

Melissa started quilting as a hobby in 2005 but since starting her blog, Happy Quilting, in 2010 her hobby has turned into a passion.  Her passion for quilting has lead to creating her own designs that she shares as tutorials, published works, and even a pattern line.  Melissa loves designing and finds inspiration in just about everything and anything.  Melissa, her husband and their five little children live in Cedar City, Utah.  To see more of her daily quilting adventures check out her blog Happy Quilting.

Joan Ford hummingbird-highway.com

Joan Ford hummingbird-highway.com

On February 8, 2003, Joan Ford took her first quilting class and was hooked! Since then, Joan has completed about 300 - 400 quilts. But who’s counting? In 2006, Joan established her company, Hummingbird Highway. Perhaps she is best known for patterns, books, and workshops featuring the popular ScrapTherapy® technique. This technique helps quilters relieve the guilt of a growing scrap fabric stash, by cutting, storing, and using scrap fabrics in a variety of quilted projects.

A thorough overview of the process is detailed in the book ScrapTherapy®, Cut the Scraps! published by The Taunton Press. Her second book ScrapTherapy®, Scraps Plus One!, released by The Taunton Press in 2013, follows along with more patterns and project ideas. As owner of Hummingbird Highway, LLC, Joan designs in her home studio and office. She also lectures and teaches workshops throughout the United States and Canada.

Nancy Raschka www.gladcreationsquilts.com

Nancy Raschka www.gladcreationsquilts.com

When our country’s bicentennial triggered a resurgent interest in quilting, it came at just the right time for Nancy.  With a newly acquired degree in economics, she switched her focus from finding a career in big business to starting her own small quilt shop. It was a logical next step from working in a quilt shop and teaching at other local shops in the Minneapolis area. Nancy says, “I still have quilters approach me to say that they learned to quilt from me all those years ago.”

Quilting is a family affair for Nancy. She joined forces with her mom, Gladys, who had her own handmade purse business called Glad Creations. Nancy added a couple hundred bolts of fabrics, a few classes, and Glad Creations Quilt Block was born. She now runs the shop with partner and sister, Susan Dyer. In 2016 they will celebrate their 40th year in business.

Nancy’s quilting expertise runs deep. “I started piecing and quilting traditionally – by hand with cardboard templates – and moved into rotary cutting, machine piecing and machine quilting.” As tools and techniques evolved, Nancy mastered every aspect of traditional to modern quilt making. Her favorite part of the process, though, is machine piecing, which is reflected in the nearly 100 patterns she and Susan have been designing since the 1980’s.>

“We specialize in designs using simple parts that have a complex, scrappy overall appearance.” Each design starts as a mystery quilt and then becomes a pattern to be sold in shops around the country. Nancy looks forward to working with you on one of her designs!

Each stateroom has two beds that convert to queen-size, a private bath, phone, interactive flat-screen TV, mini-bar, hair dryers and air conditioning/heat controls.
