Dear Friends,

Sing along time! "Texas our Texas all hail the mighty state!" Oh yes, we are proud of our great state of Texas which is where this amazing cruise will depart from. We will leave Galveston and sail to three wonderful ports, learn how to make three beautiful quilts, and make some Texas-size friends along the way. If you are not from Texas you will find that we will make sure you fit right in and hey, you might learn how to speak Texan while you are with us. Can you join in on this fun?

Thomasine Hendrickson

Thomasine Hendrickson

Thomasine Hendrickson was bit with the crafting bug at an early age and loved making things with her mom. As an adult, she was a demonstrator making cards and projects while selling Stampin' Up! for 20 years. She has also loved sewing ever since she took her first Home Economics class in junior high school. Thomasine has always loved quilts, but didn't know much about quilting. She started out making rag quilts for her family, and then teaching a group of her friends how to make them. She purchased her first Bernina in 2011 and took a quilt class at her local quilt shop. She loved it and was hooked! She loves sewing quilts, bags, purses, and any craft project that catches her eye and is always looking to learn new techniques. Now she works part time at that quilt shop and teaches classes there every month. Thomasine quit her job three years ago where she worked for 12 years in the special Education Department with the school system. Thomasine and her husband designed and built a quilt barn 2 years ago where she now has several sewing and embroidery machines, and recently added a longarm machine. You can find her there sewing with her friends almost every day. Her husband even gets to enjoy a "small" corner ever now and then. "I love teaching and seeing everyone's projects from start to finish , and how excited they are when everything comes together. Quilters are a unique breed and the friendliest people you'll ever meet!" Thomasine lives with her husband, Charlie in Ponca City, Oklahoma and their 2 Mastiffs. They have 1 daughter, 4 sons, and 5 grandkids. She loves hanging out with the oldest granddaughter, Janessa while teaching her to quilt and can't wait to teach the others.

Brenda Henning

Brenda Henning

Brenda Henning is a compulsive quiltmaker with a fondness for traditional design and a desire to incorporate today's speed-piecing techniques with yesterday's well-loved patterns. Brenda's machine sewing experience began at the early age of 10 on her grandmother's treadle sewing machine with the first quilt following at age 14. Brenda became a compulsive quilter in the mid-80s, and began teaching quiltmaking in 1988, when her third child was an infant. Brenda is the author of numerous books and individual patterns available under the label Bear Paw Productions.

Brenda lives in Anchorage, Alaska, with her husband, Richard, and their three children, Beth, Christi and Joshua. Two Rottweilers, Kaia and Jade, share copious quantities of black dog hair with every quilt that leaves the premises. Brenda teaches shops and guilds throughout Alaska and the United States.

Pathways

This quilt designed by Debbie Maddy is fast and fun. The easy piecing for this modern style quilt is done with only squares in different sizes. It really showcases the fabrics. All you need to make this fast fun quilt is fat quarters or 10” squares plus background / border fabric.

The finished size of this project will be 60" x 80"

NOTE: Fabrics in our Sail 'n Sew kits will be similar but not exactly as shown

Trip To The Altar

Two color quilts are a refreshing introduction to the designs of yesteryear. The simplicity of the design and ease of fabric selection is a joy for quilters in today’s busy world. Simple nine-patch block construction makes this quilt one that most everyone can enjoy. The units are large and the completed design is deceptively “complex”.

The finished size of this project will be 51" x 76 1/2"

NOTE: Fabrics in our Sail 'n Sew kits will be similar but not exactly as shown

Geese Over Galveston Bay

Invoke the soothing calm of sky and sea with confidence in the technique and construction of flying geese units using Studio 180 Design's Wing Clipper tool. This quilt offers an abundance of negative space for beautiful quilt design elements and will be a reminder of your quilting experience at sea for many years to come.

The finished size of this project will be 72" x 84"

Note: The Wing Clipper tool is a required item. It can be purchased through our online store here

Optional Sail 'n Sew Fabric Pack

Projects shown are representative of the quilt to be made. Unless otherwise noted, all fabrics will be different but are matched as closely to the quilt as possible.

Our incredible Sail 'n Sew fabric pack includes all of the fabrics and patterns for your projects and they are pre-cut so all you need to do is sit down and sew! The price of the Sail ‘n Sew fabric pack is $380.00 and it includes all three of the projects for this cruise.  If you would like a Sail ‘n Sew pack, just let us know when you make your Reservation and we'll have a kit waiting for you on the ship. Order early as supplies are limited. Every attempt will be made to match the fabrics as closely to the photo as possible if fabric is no longer available.

If you choose to bring your own fabric, please bring it precut and ready as we do not allow time for cutting during class. You will find the cutting instructions in each pattern that can be ordered here: PathwaysTrip To The AlterGeese Over Galveston Bay.

A complete supply list will be sent to you 90 days prior to departure.

Day 1

Galveston, Texas

Galveston Island is Texas' top historic destination. Guests on cruises from Galveston can enjoy 32 miles of relaxing beaches, great seafood, tropical scenery, superb restaurants, marvelous downtown shopping, breathtaking Victorian architecture, numerous antique stores, incredible art galleries, plus tons of attractions, entertainment venues and world-class sportfishing. Probably the most charming way to discover this historic city is by carriage. Take a carriage ride through the Victorian-era streets and let your driver take you back through history.

Day 3

Cozumel. Mexico

The Conquistadors first saw Mexico from the shores of Cozumel while searching for gold. Today, visitors to the island continue to seek out gold and silver jewelry in the shops of San Miguel while having a great time in its many local bars and restaurants. Plus, the waters around Cozumel's sheltered coral reefs make this one of the best snorkeling areas in the world. Don't miss the opportunity to explore the ruins of the ancient Mayan city of Tulúm, majestically perched above the turquoise Caribbean. The site was occupied as far back as 600 A.D. However, it was most densely populated around 1200 A.D. You will be struck by the pyramid-shaped El Castillo, which dominates the city from atop a forty-foot cliff. The nearby Temple of the Descending God provides equally excellent insight into the architecture of the Mayan people, who gained considerable achievements in the arts and sciences, only to decline and vanish for no apparent reason.

Day 3 Image

Day 4

Georgetown, Grand Cayman

Grand Cayman is one of a group of three magnificent tropical islands Christopher Columbus called "Las Tortugas" (the turtles) for the sea creatures he found in the ocean water. The designation did not endure, however, for on later maps the islands were labeled the Caimanau, the Carib Indian word for "crocodile." The name "Caimanas" refers inaccurately to the iguanas native to the islands, which were perhaps at one point mistaken for crocodiles. Among other attractions, visitors to the island will enjoy learning about the turtles, visiting the town of Hell, exploring Seven-Mile Beach and enjoying the undersea world. Experience a once-in-a-lifetime adventure: snorkeling with stingrays at Stingray City Sandbar. These relatively tame creatures will swim right into your arms as they glide around you. They have velvety soft skin and love to have their bellies rubbed. Despite their frightening name, they are very gentle and won't hurt you as long as you stay away from their tails.

Day 4 Image

Day 5

Falmouth, Jamaica

Quaint Falmouth was an economic powerhouse and center for dramatic social change during the English Colonial Period. In today's Falmouth, visitors still enjoy 19th-century Georgian architecture as well as river bamboo raft rides, arts and crafts shopping, flavorful local fare and horse-and-buggy rides. Falmouth is the gateway to the best Jamaica has to offer. Just east of Falmouth is Ocho Rios, known for its spectacular Dunn’s River Falls. Travel west to reach Montego Bay and the beautiful beaches of Negril. Thanks to its central location, Falmouth gives visitors the best tour experiences of the north coast of Jamaica. Visit the spectacular Dunn's River Falls near Ocho Rios, where you can climb 600 feet up from the base of the falls or retreat to the beach where the rushing water exits into the ocean. At Dolphin Cove you can watch the dolphins at play or walk through the jungle to see friendly birds and iguanas. From dune buggy safaris and river tubing to a horse and buggy tour, you will find many activities to keep you entertained.
