Quilting Instructors & Projects

Jill Shaulis

Jill Shaulis, a dedicated quilting enthusiast from Pearl City, Illinois, has transformed her hometown's historic turn-of-the-century bank building into a cherished quilt and gift shop since 1992. Fond childhood memories, shared with her sister as they picked up family mail from the same building, create a deep connection to the location for both Jill and their hometown community. The quaint setting serves as a backdrop for Jill's passion for authentic Civil War-era patterns, a love that fuels her creativity into the night and one she is eager to share with fellow quilting enthusiasts.

Harriet's Pioneer Braid

Harriet’s Pioneer Braid I took this class from a wonderful lady named Harriet Schoeninger a number of years ago. I loved it and so wanted to be able to have a pattern for others to enjoy too. With her permission, I have created this pattern using her information and technique. Each size (except the table runner) consists of 6 ‘braid’ sections. Each braid has 24 lights and 24 darks. Since the rectangles are different sizes the project becomes different sizes.

Finished Size: 44” x 62 ½”

3 yards of coordinated backing fabric will be needed.

NOTE: If you choose to provide your own fabric you will need the Harriet's Pioneer Braid Pattern.

Annette Plog

Annette Plog, a quilting enthusiast since 1987, discovered her passion when she pieced her first quilt, a captivating Lone Star Quilt. Specializing in the reproduction of antique quilts, Annette's deep connection to fabric history is rooted in her dedicated study, antique quilt collection, and informal education. Her diverse contributions include authoring two books, True Blue Quilts and Time Honored Traditions, as well as teaching, lecturing, and showcasing her quilts at various exhibitions. In collaboration with Windham, Annette introduced her first fabric line, Petite Perennials, further manifesting her enduring love for fabric and quilting.

Indigo Puzzle Box

Finished Size: 76 ¼ “ x 96 ¼ “

Who doesn’t love a blue quilt? The antique quilt that inspired my version has that classic blue-and-light combination that I find irresistible.

7.5 yards of coordinated backing fabric will be needed.

NOTE: If you choose to provide your own fabric you will need the Indigo Puzzle Box pattern.

Optional Sail 'n Sew Fabric Pack

Our incredible Sail 'n Sew fabric pack includes all of the fabrics and patterns for your projects and they are pre-cut so all you need to do is sit down and sew! The price of the Sail ‘n Sew fabric pack is $402.90 and it includes precut fabric for the quilt top for both projects including the borders, binding and pattern.

If you are interested in only one of the kits, you can specify which one on the registration form when you sign up for the cruise. If you would like a Sail ‘n Sew pack, simply select both kits when you fill out the registration form and we'll have it waiting for you on the ship.

If you do not wish to purchase a Sail 'n Sew Fabric Pack, remember to pack your own fabrics. We will not have fabrics available for purchase aboard the ship. You will need to bring your fabric pre-cut and ready for class. You must also bring your pattern or book. You can purchase the patterns here: Harriet's Pioneer Braid and Indigo Puzzle Box.
