The Walk About Quilt Class

2-Part Beginner Class

Class Dates: Friday, January 8th & 15th, 2027
Time: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM (with a lunch break)

This is a great beginner quilting project! We'll be making the lap size version of the Walk About Quilt by Ann Lauer in this 2-part class — and yes, you'll have some fun homework between the two sessions!

In this beginner-friendly class you'll learn to make Half Square Triangles (HSTs), square up blocks, nest your piecing for crisp intersections, and measure and apply borders — and more!

Lunch: We'll break for lunch each day. You're welcome to bring your own lunch or visit one of the local eating places during your break.

Choosing Your Fabrics: This quilt top uses 4 different fabrics.

• Fabric #1 is your "inspiration" fabric — choose a larger scale print with a few different colors in it. This becomes the large squares in the quilt.
• Fabric #2 is your "background" fabric and needs to contrast with Fabric #3.
• Fabric #3 becomes your chevrons and your first & third borders and binding. Tone-on-tones work great for Fabrics #2 and #3!
• Fabric #4 is your second border. It can be multi-color and works best when it plays well with Fabric #1 but at a slightly smaller scale.

Fabric Requirements (all fabrics should be woven cotton, quilt shop quality)

• Fabric #1: 1⅓ yds (can be directional)
• Fabric #2: ¾ yd
• Fabric #3: 1⅞ yds
• Fabric #4: ¾ yd
• Fabric #5 (optional, for backing): 3⅔ yds

Note: If you plan to wash your fabric before class, add about ⅛ yd to each cut to account for shrinkage — and be sure to press it before class!

• Walk About Pattern by Ann Lauer
• Spool of neutral cotton thread for piecing (Aurifil)
• Pins
• Rotary cutter (preferably with a fresh blade)
• Ruler: 6" square ruler with a 45-degree diagonal line
• Half Square Triangle tool
• Marking tools (Frixion pens or Sewline pencils)
• Thread snips
• 100" measuring tape
• Sewing machine with a ¼" foot
