The Teachers

Julie Belin

Julie Belin

Julie Belin’s quilting career began more than 30 years ago after receiving a quilt as a wedding gift. When her husband challenged "you could make that" the journey began. Although originally a self-taught quilter, her careers of engineer and high school math teacher fueled her passion for precision piecing. She's always on the lookout for efficient methods and tools to do just that.

Nearly eight years ago after starting her small business, Blue Oaks Quilting, she was introduced to Studio 180 tools and fell in love with the ease and precision the tools allowed her to have. Wanting to share this with others, she became a Studio 180 Certified Instructor in 2016, opening the door for her to share her enthusiasm for the tools across the country with workshops and lectures at guilds, retreats and quilt shows. She loves seeing the excitement of her students as they master the tools.

When Julie isn’t teaching or lecturing, you can find her busy with her many guilds planning events, quilting for charity, long-arming for her business or maybe even playing in her garden.

The Projects

Summer Solstice

By Deb Tucker

Summer Solstice is the perfect quilt to create while using three of the most fundamental Studio 180 Design tools. You’ll learn all the basics necessary to use Studio 180 Design’s Corner Beam, V-block, and Wing Clipper. Investigate how the tools can be used for multiple sizes of units and even learn an additional technique called Quickets using the Wing Clipper. Not only will you walk away with a beautiful quilt, but you’ll also have the skills and confidence to use these tools over and over on all sorts of quilting projects – thus learning how to ‘Tuckerize’ with these tools for patterns other than from Studio 180 Design. Julie will have you feeling success in no time!

Size: 64”x80”

Trifari Jewels - Tim Holtz

By Judy Niemeyer

TRIFARI JEWELS is a fun beginner friendly 45” x 45” pattern from Quiltworx that goes together quickly while learning and practicing Judy Niemeyer’s foundation paper piecing techniques. There are no curved seams in this project – just varying lengths of straight seams. Your points will never be cut off, due to Judy’s design process. This pattern will also be fun for seasoned Judy Niemeyer enthusiasts that like showing off interesting color choices! I have reduced the number of fabrics from the original cover quilt because we are using these amazing Tim Holtz Abandoned fabrics that lend themselves to creating interesting color and texture motifs within each unit. This will make organization easier and your results will appear to be much more complicated!

Finished Size: 45” x 45”
