How to Make Quilted Fabric Bookmarks
Hello everyone! Kymona here with another stash buster project for all of you, Quilted Fabric Bookmarks!
If you sew, I know for sure you have a fabric stash that keeps growing no matter how much of it you use. I, too, have the same issue. The more I use up, the more I save. Fabric bookmarks are a great way to use up that stash and make bookmarkers for family, friends, or yourself. Quilting them is an added plus.
You can use the fabric as is, or you could piece together different strips of fabric to create a new piece of fabric for a unique bookmark.
Take a look at these quilted fabric bookmarks:

Instructions to Make Quilted Fabric Bookmarks
Step 1: Cut the Fabric
Cut the top fabric, batting, and backing fabric to 2.5 inches x 7 inches.
Step 2: Add the Ribbon
Find the center of the top fabric and pin the ribbon on the right side to the top raw edges together.
Step 3: Make a Quilt Sandwich
Place the batting down first.
Next, place the backing fabric wrong side down on top of the batting.
Lastly, place the top fabric piece with the ribbon right sides down on the backing fabric.
Pin or clip all of the layers together.
Step 4: Sew the Pieces Together
Attach the patchwork foot for dual feed to the bernette 77.
Start on one of the long sides and sew around using a 1/4 inch seam allowance, leaving a 3-inch hole for turning.
Step 5: Trim and Turn
Trim off the excess fabric from the sides and clip the corners to remove the bulk.
Turn the bookmark inside out. Fold the opening in and press.
Step 6: Stich Close
Now stitch a 1/4 inch seam around the entire bookmark to close up the hole.
Step 7: Quit the Bookmark
You can leave your bookmark unquilted like this one below.
If you want to add dimension and flatten the bookmark more, quilting is a great way to do that.
Use the decorative and quilt stitching on the machine to quilt the bookmarks.
The design used is decorative stitch 189 and quilting stitch 1025 on the bernette 77.
Stitch straight down or on the diagonally. Let your creative juices flow.
These bookmarks are cute, fun, and easy to make. You can make many of these in no time—such a great way to use all of that stashed fabric.
