Easy Zippered Pouch Tutorial

The design is called Cactus Love. Kimberbell describes the design as celebrating “the beauty of warm desert sands. A saguaro cactus of Embroidery Leather blooms beside an Embroidery Felt prickly pear, both nestled in a bed of applique fabric and encased in Sweet as Candy Clear Vinyl. Topped with a heartfelt gift tag. Cactus Love is a succulent project for both sewing and machine embroidery enthusiasts!”

I opted to do my bag with a built-in design on the BERNINA 790. Let me show you how I made my Kimberbell Amethyst pouch.

1. Open the Zipper Pouch Blank and pull back the lining. Iron a piece of OESD Fusible Poly Mesh stabilizer to the back side of the pouch.

2. Hoop a piece of OESD Stabil Stick Tear-Away stabilizer in the large oval hoop. Draw the centering/crosshairs on the stabilizer.

Fold one side of pouch in half both horizontally and vertically. Center pouch in hoop.

3. Select folder 14 from the B790 built in designs.

Select the letter of your choice. Using Isacord thread in the top and OESD bobbin thread , stitch out the design.

4. Once the design is finished, sew up the side seams with a simple straight stitch. Remember to place the zipper pull near the middle of the bag before sewing the last side seam.
