Judy Niemeyer Quiltworx - Tarnished Windmill Quilt Pattern
Judy Niemeyer Quiltworx - Tarnished Windmill Quilt Pattern
Tarnished Windmill is a foundation paper piecing quilt designed by Bradley and Judy Niemeyer that was inspired by the Reclaimed West Fabric line. This pattern features a new technique developed in 2014 that expands on traditional foundation paper piecing by using strip-piecing to complete the lone star units. To complete the stars, strips are sewn onto foundation paper to complete a ‘Strip Set’. The finished quilt measures 60" x 60".
The Tarnished Windmill star was designed using 3" strips for the strip piecing. It incorporates the windmill block developed with the Reclaimed West fabric collection. The general assembly process was designed with no Y-Seams, using yardage very efficiently at just over 7 yards of fabric for the top.
The quilt pattern includes instructions for the technique and requires backings (3 7/8 yards) and batting (2 yards) for the finished quilt. The Tarnished Windmill Kit, which includes the fabrics needed to make the quilt top, borders, and binding, is available separately. Pattern and backing are not included in the kit. The fabrics will be matched as closely as possible to the picture. Some substitutions may occur due to availability of fabrics.
