The Quilting Marine - Mark Darrell

The Quilting Marine - Mark Darrell

Mark Darrell, also known as The Quilting Marine, has a remarkable story that involves the discovery of his passion for quilting during a difficult period in his life. After serving for 20 years in the United States Marine Corps, Mark struggled with PTSD-related issues. However, he found that quilting was a therapeutic and relaxing activity that allowed him to focus on creating something beautiful while also helping him to cope with his struggles.

Mark's passion for quilting goes beyond just creating beautiful quilts. His true goal is to help others create quilts that they can admire for years to come. His favorite part of the quilting process is piecing the blocks together, knowing that he is building something that will bring joy and comfort to someone else. For Mark, the process of creating a quilt is his therapy. He doesn't get wrapped up in the details or the perfection of the final product. Instead, he focuses on the joy of the process and the fact that he is creating something that will make a positive impact on someone else's life.

Mark's philosophy when it comes to quilting is simple but profound. He lives by the mantra of "it's only fabric" and "it's only thread." To him, these materials are simply tools that he uses to create something beautiful and meaningful. He doesn't let the pressure of creating a perfect quilt get in the way of enjoying the process and sharing his passion with others.

Overall, Mark's journey is a testament to the healing power of quilting and the importance of finding creative outlets for coping with life's challenges. His dedication to helping others create beautiful quilts is truly inspiring, and his positive outlook on life and the quilting process is a reminder to us all to enjoy the journey and not get bogged down by perfectionism.

The Combat Quilter - Andrew Lee

The Combat Quilter - Andrew Lee

Andrew Lee may be a relative newcomer to quilting, with just over 6 years of experience, but his passion for the craft runs deep. It all began when his wife commented that they didn't spend enough time together, prompting him to take a quilted table runner class and join a men's quilting group. Quilting quickly became Andrew's go-to for therapeutic relief and he hasn't looked back since.

As a 21-year combat veteran, Andrew has found that quilting is the only coping mechanism that truly works for him. He has made over 300 quilts for veterans, long-armed over 700 customer quilts, and is always looking for ways to help others. With his wife Kristy and dog Winston, Andrew spends countless hours in the studio creating wonderful projects together.

As a certified Army instructor, Andrew's attention to detail and desire to learn make him an effective teacher. He has been featured in magazines and quilting books. Currently, Andrew is working on another masterpiece in his pixelated series. His website, combatquilter.com, is filled with details of his journey, patterns, and pictures of the many quilts he has completed.

Join Andrew on his quilting journey and discover the therapeutic benefits of this incredible craft.

Day 1

Miami, FL

As far as vacation destinations go, Miami tops most sun-seekers’ lists. With its gorgeous beaches, vibrant neighborhoods and melting pot of cultures, the Magic City is the perfect place to spend a few days before your Caribbean island hop. Ahead of your cruise from Miami, jump-start your morning in true Miami style with a Cuban cafecito from a ventanita — a streetside shop window. Then climb the historic lighthouse at Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park on quiet Key Biscayne before lounging on the island’s secluded sandy shores. If you’re looking for a bit more action, head to South Beach — home to world-class restaurants, nightlife, shopping and lively beaches, all set against snap-worthy Art Deco buildings. Art lovers who visit Miami can head to Wynwood and explore the neighborhood’s colorful street murals and local galleries. Or take a trip back in time at the Renaissance-style Vizcaya estate, which offers a glimpse into Miami’s dazzling past.

Day 2

Perfect Day Cococay, Bahamas

Experience the ultimate thrill-seeking adventure with Royal Caribbean® Cruises. For a taste of paradise, reserve your own Overwater Cabana and indulge in a Bora Bora-style experience. Come discover the magic of Perfect Day at CocoCay, exclusively available on Royal Caribbean® Cruises. Book now for an unforgettable vacation experience.

Day 3

Nassau, Bahamas

Caribbean charm shines in the Bahamian capital, where you’re never more than a few steps away from rhythmic percussions, appetizing flavors, white-sand beaches, and some of the clearest waters in the world. This picture-perfect paradise was once a pirate’s haven— and you can explore its colorful past of buccaneers, blockade-runners and bootleggers along historical streets and at the three colonial fortresses that line the shores. If you’re looking for a more hands-on maritime adventure, look no further. Cruise to Nassau and swim with stingrays, dive with dolphins, or spot colorful coral on a glass-bottom boat. And just across the bridge is beautiful Paradise Island, home to world-famous luxury hotels and resorts. Spend the day at the famous Atlantis and splash your way through its expansive water park, grab a piña colada at the Marina Village, and spot the hammerhead sharks in Predator Lagoon.

Day 5

Falmouth, Jamaica

For a relaxing ride along the shoreline, hop on horseback in Chukkah Beach. Cruise to Falmouth and head to the Water Square and jam out with the locals to live reggae. Culture cravers can get their fix during high tea at the historical Good Hope Estate overlooking the Queen of Spain Valley. And a trip to Falmouth wouldn’t be complete without chowing down on fiery jerk chicken and rum cake, two local favorites.

Day 5 Image

Day 6

Labadee, Haiti

Beachside meets mountainside on the shores of Labadee — a Royal Caribbean® private destination on Haiti’s northern coast. Here you’ll find pristine sands, coral reefs and jungle-covered hilltops nestling lagoon-like bays. There’s no shortage of places to relax and recharge across five stretches of beach. Or dial up the thrills on an active adventure like a half-mile-long zip line ride over the ocean. And fascinating culture, history and the natural beauty of Haiti’s spectacular coasts wait to be discovered around every corner.
